What this service is for

What can a video editor help you build?

Edit and polish footage into videos that support your goals—social clips, product demos, training, or ads. Editors handle cutting and pacing, sound clean‑up, colour grading and delivery in the formats you need.

Create engaging social clips

Turn longer footage into short, platform-ready videos and cutdowns that boost engagement on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

Polish product and demo videos

Make product demos and explainer videos clearer and more persuasive with clean edits, captions and on‑brand audio treatment.

Produce event or training edits

Convert event recordings or training shoots into highlight reels, module videos or episodic series for internal or public use.

How Unicorn Factory works

A simple way to find the right freelancer.

Create one project brief, compare applications from relevant freelancers, and choose who you would like to meet.

Step 01

Tell us what you need.

Use the guided brief to explain the outcome, timing, budget, and context. You do not need to prepare a technical specification.

01

Social content editing package

Edit raw footage into a main social video plus short cut‑downs and vertical formats for advertising and organic posts.

  • One edited main social video (example: 45–90 seconds) delivered in chosen aspect ratios
  • One or more short cut‑downs (eg 15–30s) for stories and reels as agreed
  • Captioning or subtitles (SRT file) and basic on‑screen titles
  • Final exports optimised for platforms (H.264/MP4) and a project file on request
02

Product demo or launch edit

Turn recorded demos, screen captures and interview soundbites into a tight product video suitable for landing pages and ads.

  • Edited product/demo video (length agreed in brief)
  • Sound mixing and basic noise reduction for voice tracks
  • Simple motion graphics: lower thirds, callouts and a closing CTA
  • Delivery masters for web and a compressed ad version
03

Long‑form post‑production (documentary / training)

Full post‑production for longer content: assembly edit, fine cut, colour grade and deliverables for episodic or training use.

  • Assembly and fine cuts for one or more episodes or modules (scope agreed)
  • Professional colour grading and scene matching
  • Mix of dialogue, music and ambient audio; separate masters
  • Delivery of masters and compressed versions, plus optional captions

Pricing guidance

How much does video editing cost?

Indicative NZ$ ranges to help you budget. Final price depends on footage, complexity, and delivery requirements and is agreed directly with the freelancer.

NZ$300–NZ$1,200

Quick social edits and simple cuts: single‑camera shoots, light trimming, basic titles and captions. Best for single short videos or a small set of short cutdowns.

NZ$300–NZ$1,200

NZ$1,200–NZ$4,500

Polished promo, product or event videos: multi‑source edits, sound mixing, basic motion graphics and colour grading. Typical for marketing campaigns and website videos.

NZ$1,200–NZ$4,500

NZ$4,500–NZ$15,000+

Long‑form edits, multi‑episode series or full post‑production on complex shoots that require heavy grading, sound design or bespoke animation.

NZ$4,500–NZ$15,000+

What affects the price

  • Footage and capture quality — well-shot, labelled footage reduces edit time and cost.
  • Editing complexity — number of cuts, motion graphics, sound design and grading required.
  • Turnaround and revision cycles — faster deadlines and more rounds of changes increase price.
  • Deliverables and formats — additional aspect ratios, captions, masters and licensing (music, stock) add cost.

Estimates are indicative, may exclude GST and any ongoing software or platform fees, and final scope and freelancer rates are agreed directly with the freelancer. Request a tailored quote by posting your brief.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions before you hire.

Answers to the questions clients commonly ask before starting a brief.

Still deciding what you need?

Start with the outcome and the context you already have. A polished specification is not required.

How long will my edit take?

Timing depends on scope and turnaround required. Simple social edits can take a few days; longer or more complex projects commonly take one to several weeks. Specify your required delivery date in the brief so applicants can confirm availability.

What should I include in the brief?

Tell editors your business goal, target audience, footage you have (formats and duration), desired final lengths and aspect ratios, examples of style you like, and your deadline and budget range.

Can freelancers handle large raw files and many formats?

Yes — most editors work with common codecs and accept large files via cloud transfer (WeTransfer, Google Drive, Frame.io etc.). State your file types and preferred transfer method in the brief so applicants can confirm they can work with them.

How does Unicorn Factory’s process work?

You create a project brief, relevant freelancers apply, you review applications, and Unicorn Factory makes warm introductions so you can speak directly and agree final scope and rates with the freelancer.

Are music and stock footage licences included?

Licensing is not automatically included unless the freelancer specifies it in their application. Ask applicants to declare whether music, stock footage or voiceover costs are included or charged separately.
