Not sure? Start with what you're trying to do.

Most people come to us with a goal, not a job title. Here's where the most common ones usually land.

  • “I spend my nights catching up on admin.”

A virtual assistant can take over your inbox, calendar, invoicing or data entry for a set number of hours each week.

    Virtual Assistance
  • “Customers are waiting days for a reply.”

A customer support freelancer can answer emails and messages, and set up templates so replies stay consistent.

    Customer Support
  • “Our proposals and reports all look different.”

A document specialist can tidy up what you have and build branded templates your team can reuse.

Questions about hiring a virtual assistant

Straight answers to what NZ business owners ask us most.

How much does a freelance virtual assistant cost in New Zealand?

Everyday virtual assistance usually costs NZ$35–$55 / hour, and more experienced support NZ$55–$95 / hour, excluding GST. Assistants quote after reading your brief. The type of tasks, your systems and whether you need set hours move the price most.

Should I hire a freelancer or an outsourcing agency?

A freelancer suits most small businesses: you work with the same person each week and they learn how you like things done. An agency makes sense when you need cover across long hours or a team that can scale up quickly.

I don't have a brief. Can I still start?

Yes. Most people don't have one. Tell us what you're trying to achieve and we'll turn it into a brief with you before anything goes out to virtual assistants.

Is a virtual assistant an employee?

No. A freelance virtual assistant runs their own business and invoices you for their time. If the arrangement starts to look like a regular job, check with your accountant or employment adviser.

How do I keep my business information safe?

Give your assistant their own logins with only the access they need, and use a password manager rather than sharing passwords. Ask them to sign a confidentiality agreement if they'll see customer or financial details.

Do I pay GST?

Only if your freelancer is GST-registered. Registered virtual assistants add 15% GST to their quote, while many sole traders earning under NZ$60,000 a year aren't registered and won't charge it.

How long does it take to find someone?

We aim to start sharing interested virtual assistants within a few working days of agreeing your brief. When work starts depends on their availability and your timing.
