The project
Project overview
The challenge
Located on the waterfront in Ahuriri, Mix’d set out to offer a fresh take on the cocktail and music scene. While many cocktail bars lean into dark, moody aesthetics, founder Olivia envisioned something different: a space that felt light, open and inviting, while still delivering a sophisticated and memorable experience.
The challenge was to create an identity that captured the relaxed, beachside character of the location without feeling overly casual. It needed to balance coastal ease with refinement, while reflecting Mix’d’s focus on quality, creativity and connection.
Approach
I developed a brand identity that brings together a relaxed coastal aesthetic with a polished, contemporary edge. The visual direction was intentionally light and fresh, creating a distinctive point of difference from the darker visual language commonly associated with cocktail bars.
Every element was considered to reflect the experience Olivia wanted to create, from the typography and colour palette through to the wider brand applications. The result is an identity that feels considered and sophisticated, but never exclusive or unapproachable.
The result
Mix’d launched with a distinctive brand that feels completely connected to its waterfront setting and the experience it offers. The identity creates a strong and recognisable presence while capturing the balance at the heart of the brand: sophisticated yet relaxed, creative yet approachable, and unmistakably coastal.
