How does hiring on Unicorn Factory work?
Tell us what you need, and a person from our team will email you to learn more about the project, timing, and budget. If you want help finding someone, we will explain the matching process and any fee before we start. With your go-ahead, we look for suitable freelancers, share interested candidates with you, and arrange introductions when you are ready.
How much does it cost to hire on Unicorn Factory?
Browsing freelancers and sending an enquiry is free. If you ask us to actively find and introduce freelancers, an assisted matching fee may apply. As a guide, this may be around NZ$299 + GST, but we will confirm the fee with you before starting. Freelancers set their own rates and quote for the project separately; we do not take a percentage of their work.
Who manages the work and payment?
You and the freelancer agree on the scope, deliverables, timeline, price, and payment terms. The freelancer does the work, and you pay them directly. Unicorn Factory helps you make the connection, but we do not manage the project or handle project payments.
Who chooses the freelancer I work with?
You do. We share relevant freelancers and what we know about their experience, availability, and quotes. You choose whom to speak with and whether to hire anyone. There is no obligation to work with someone we introduce.
How do you find freelancers and how are they vetted?
We look across our New Zealand freelancer network for relevant skills and past work, then check interest and availability for your project. Freelancers apply to join, and we review their experience, portfolio, communication, and fit before approving a profile. This is not a background check or a guarantee of their work, so you can review their work and speak with them before deciding.
