Not sure? Start with what you're trying to do.

Most people come to us with a goal, not a job title. Here's where the most common ones usually land.

  • “We're starting a business and need to look legit.”

Start with a logo and simple brand identity, then business cards and a one-page website.

    Logo Design
  • “Our marketing looks a bit homemade.”

A graphic designer can build templates for social, email and print that your team reuses.

    Graphic Design
  • “Our website is out of date and doesn't bring in enquiries.”

A web designer works on layout and messaging. A developer builds it. Some people do both.

Questions about hiring a designer

Straight answers to what NZ business owners ask us most.

How much does a freelance designer cost in New Zealand?

Most focused design jobs cost NZ$400–$1,200, a logo NZ$700–$1,800, and a small website design NZ$1,500–$5,000, excluding GST. Designers quote after reading your brief. Scope, formats and revision rounds move the price most.

Should I hire a freelancer or a design agency?

A freelancer is usually faster and more affordable for a defined job, and you work with the person doing the work. An agency makes sense when you need many specialists managed together over months.

I don't have a brief. Can I still start?

Yes. Most people don't have one. Tell us what you're trying to achieve and we'll turn it into a brief with you before anything goes out to designers.

Who owns the logo and design files?

Agree this in writing before work starts. Most freelancers hand over full rights and source files on final payment, but some license work instead. We'll add it to your brief so it's clear from day one.

What's the difference between a graphic designer and a web designer?

A graphic designer makes things people look at, like flyers, social posts and reports. A web designer plans how your website looks and flows so visitors find what they need and get in touch. Some designers do both, and we'll tell you which fits your job.

Do I pay GST?

Only if your freelancer is GST-registered. Registered designers add 15% GST to their quote, while many sole traders earning under NZ$60,000 a year aren't registered and won't charge it.

How long does it take to find someone?

We aim to start sharing interested designers within a few working days of agreeing your brief. When work starts depends on their availability and your timing.

Three minutes now saves hours of searching. We'll come back to you with questions, a brief and people who fit.
