Kowtow | MDW Activation

Krista Barnaby of Wellington designed a zero-waste garment pattern for Melbourne Design Week, delivering circular design and repurposed packaging.

Project overview

Kowtow is a pioneer in circular design. This project facilitates a critical shift from linear consumerism to circular participation: shifting the audience from passive buyers to active makers.

For Melbourne Design Week, we designed a physical garment pattern rooted in radical subtraction. Every touchpoint prioritises zero-waste: the physical pattern utilises cut’s on fold to reduce paper usage, while packaging repurposes in-house glassine bags sewn shut with deadstock fabric belts. Finished with custom rubber stamps, the project bridges the gap between industrial production and tactile, regenerative craft.
