Jason Petterson is a freelance Brand Designer from Nelson

I run my own Branding Agency - Gusto Design - and deal directly with a wide range of clients from big corporates to startups and non-profits.

My specialties are Brand Creation, Brand Strategy, Art Direction, Typography and Packaging Design - but its fair to say I love all kinds of design! I relish being able to understand a problem, conceptualise solutions, and then bring together a branding programme or marketing campaign that fulfils the vision – and most importantly makes my client’s business successful.

Beside the 4 specialties above I’m also very experience in: Brand Identity Design (Company, Product and Events), Communication Design, Document Design, Design for Print, Advertising, Direct Marketing, Design for Social Media and Websites, Presentation, Brand Guidelines. I have experience working with a wide range of business sectors including but not limited to: retail, food and beverage, hospitality, tourism, pharmaceutical, health and beauty, fashion, safety, building & construction, fisheries, forestry, education, local government, transport, sport.I really enjoy working with people - clients or agencies - to create memorable brand stories. As the Creative Director and Designer I manage the whole process. I work with a network of other creatives to supply all applications of the brand. My clients love that they get to work directly with the creative. I pride myself on good communication with my clients and involving them in the process. It’s a collaboration - so that that they feel they own the concept. But they also realise that they commissioning me for my experience, creativity and ideas.

Ive won plenty of awards - but the rewards are a reflection of client relationships built on trust, communication and collaboration. So really the awards belong to my clients - who allow me the scope to create for them in the knowledge that that improves the chance for their success. The awards have been for Design (DINZ Best Awards - Corporate Identity and Document), Innovation in Marketing (AAEE Events, Marketing Campaigns), Pride in Print (Print Excellence & Management), Wine Branding. I have Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design & Photography. I have 25 years experience in this great industry working in Christchurch, Tokyo, Auckland (Designworks) before establishing Gusto Design in Auckland - and now Nelson.
