Mini Māui Kids' Club – New Zealand Maritime Museum

The New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa needed a fresh identity for their Mini Māui kids' club – a brand that would feel playful and inviting to children aged 4–12 while remaining connected to the museum's wider visual world.
With a clear direction already established – pastel marine colours drawn from the museum's existing outdoor mural – the focus was on crafting something with genuine character. The result is a hand-drawn logo that feels warm and approachable rather than corporate, with a bubble motif that nods to the underwater world and carries through consistently into the quarterly newsletter.
The hand-lettered typography adds a sense of childlike joy, while the pastel palette ties the club's identity back to the museum's physical space, creating a cohesive experience across touchpoints.
For the quarterly newsletter, the visual language was extended further – bubbles carry through from the logo, and a wave motif introduced on the front page adds rhythm and movement, grounding the design in its maritime setting without overcomplicating it.
