About

Maori Language Week is a Government run initiative to celebrate and promote the use of Te Reo Maori in New Zealand.

As one of New Zealand’s official languages (along with English and sign language), using Te Reo Maori in every day life in New Zealand is crucially important to keep the language alive.

Alongside this, general cultural awareness is also important to integrate new speakers of Te Reo Maori into using the language. For example, being able to pronounce Taupo correctly (toe-paw) is just one way that you can incorporate Te Reo Maori into your day to day language.
