My name is Franziska Steinkohl. Originally from Germany, I have spent nearly ten years in New Zealand and hold a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design (Honours) degree from Massey University. Both my tertiary education and internships developed my creative skills and critical thinking, opening my eyes to the world of design, its power, complexities, and potential. It is a field I have a deep passion for, and since finishing my tertiary studies I have strived to keep up-to-date with all the field’s developments. After completing my degree and an internship at the agency Insight Creative in 2017, I worked as a freelance designer in Melbourne, Australia. Throughout 2018, I was based in my hometown Munich, Germany, where I was employed at a vintage bicycle shop as a designer, social media strategist and, on occasion, a mechanic. I have recently returned to New Zealand and am currently looking for design work opportunities in Wellington.
I have a strong focus on Print Design, Interaction Design, Brand Identity, Editorial Design, Product and Packaging Design and Typography. I critically consider the strategic thinking behind visual solutions and always put the user first. I am also fascinated by Environmental Graphic Design – a field I was introduced to through a University project and my membership with the Society of Experiential Graphic Design of America. EGD combines my interest in visual communication, the urban environment and people to apply graphic design in ways which create a spatial narrative.
Besides design, I am very enthusiastic about bicycles. Current trends and movements towards bike-friendly cities and getting more people onto two wheels, inspire and drive me daily.
