Following a major review process of the Tertiary Teaching Excellence Awards (TTEA) in NZ, Ako Aotearoa made changes to the Awards for increased diversity and inclusion. The reshaped awards programme - “Te Whatu Kairangi”- is now more inclusive of celebrating outstanding tertiary educators from right across the sector, builds sector capability, and aligns closely with Government Tertiary Education Strategy priorities.

I provided Ako Aotearoa with marketing and communications support from Oct 2021 to Mar 2022 to assist them in communicating the awards changes and launching Te Whatu Kairangi to NZ's tertiary sector.

I was responsible for the following:

  • Developing audience personas and a brand framework for the refreshed awards programme.
  • Communicating the results of the TTEA review to the sector, to signal the upcoming changes and benefits.
  • Differentiating the new Awards from the old by managing a visual identity refresh and name/title change.
  • Rebranding and copywriting of documentation to support the Awards programme/process.
  • Officially launching the new Awards process to attract wider involvement from underrepresented parts of the sector.
  • Developing a communications plan to engage audiences and drive nominations.
